O'Three are joining in the festivity and sponsoring this years Scuba Santa Charity event;
Scuba Santas will be entering its 5th year in 2011 and continues going from
strength to strength. Often quoted as the "best dive of the year" the event has
raised over £15,000 for crew training at the RNLI breaking its own world record
several times over in the process.
This year we're hoping to break £20,000 barrier for funds raised for the RNLI so
please dig deep!
Born out of the popular scuba diving forum Yorkshire Divers (or YD for short)
the event started in 2007 with a group of 8 hardy divers heading out to do
something a little different and raise some money for charity. The ethos behind
Scuba Santas is to hold a fun christmas diving event that divers return to year
after year. The charitable aspect is an important part of Scuba Santas and is
great side-effect of people enjoying themselves.
This year sees the event move from our previous home of Vobster Quay near Frome
to the National Diving and Activity Centre (NDAC) just outside Chepstow. NDAC is
the deepest inland dive centre in the UK and has great access being just off the
M48 / M4 motorways. The team at NDAC have been working with us over the past
15 months to help find corporate sponsorship and spread the word about the
event.
We specifically donate funds to RNLI crew training as thanks for the great
service that these people provide to the UK diving community. By slowly growing
the event and tweaking the format we hope to achieve the most enjoyable event
for the greatest number of divers. We’re always interested in feedback to help
improve the event!
Over the past few years the event has started to attract corporate sponsorship
leading to increased donations and goodie bags for attending divers. This trend
continues with sponsorship already confirmed by O'Three, Simply Scuba,
NDAC, Scimitar Diving (Weymouth), Fourth Element, VR Tech, and many
more.
This years event will be held on Sunday 18th December 2011, at the National
Diving & Activity Centre (NDAC), Chepstow. If you’ve attended before we’re very
much looking forward to seeing you at our new home. If, however, you’ve never
attended before and are looking for a very fun winter dive grab yourself a santa
costume and your dive gear and head on over, divers with any level of experience
are welcome and you’re sure to meet lots of new diving friends!

Merry Christmas!
